Lost in the Beauty of Guatemala: Volcanoes, Lakes, and a Heart Full of Memories

Little did I know that the majestic views of volcanoes, lakes, valleys, and sunsets would leave such a lasting impact on us. Even though we only explored a small portion of this incredible country, it filled our hearts with a deep passion and appreciation for our planet.

Antigua, Guatemala

Our journey began with a breathtaking sunrise in the city of Antigua. This historic city is in a constant battle between preserving its rich past and embracing modernization. So far, it has struck a delicate balance, and I truly admired that harmony.

Waking up to the golden reflection of the sun shining on the peak of Volcán de Fuego was an indescribable experience. Sipping a hot cup of coffee on a crisp morning with this view was, without a doubt, one of the most wholesome and peaceful moments I’ve ever had.

But it’s not just nature that is mesmerizing—the combination of majestic volcanoes surrounding the centuries-old architecture is pure magic. It’s a sight that delights the eyes and awakens the senses.

Being present in this town was an absolute privilege.

Here’s a picture of the two of us saying goodbye to this amazing city. Below, you can watch our recollection of Antigua.

During our stay in Antigua, we had the privilege of hiking Acatenango Volcano. Below is our journey of appreciation for this adventure.

Nothing humbles you quite like hiking uphill at 11,000 feet in elevation, with a cold breeze against your face, for four straight hours. The mental battle that this volcano put us through was just a fraction of the reward we felt when the sky finally cleared, revealing a breathtaking sunset sinking between two volcanoes into the vast sea.

Sleeping in what we could only describe as a chicken coop was brutal. The freezing temperatures, the lack of oxygen, dehydration, and no bathroom—everything was a challenge.

Luckily, exhaustion worked in our favor, allowing us to drift off into short periods of sleep. When morning arrived and the temperature rose, the experience completely changed.

As the sun lit up the sky, a stunning, bare mountain was unveiled right in front of our little shelter. I captured this breathtaking moment just before breakfast. We were speechless—humbled, moved, and deeply grateful. We had achieved something truly challenging: conquering Acatenango Volcano. The reward of that experience will stay with us forever.

Below, you’ll find a summary of our adventure conquering this mighty volcano.

After our unforgettable hike, we traveled to a place where the brilliant blue waters reflect yet another volcano—Volcán Atitlán.

Just when we thought nature couldn’t get any more beautiful, this lake completely took us by surprise. It’s an astonishing, almost surreal combination of breathtaking landscapes, warm and welcoming people, rustic and humble infrastructure, modern and luxurious resorts, and an overwhelming sense of peace.

But what truly stole our hearts was the hotel we stayed at—Hotel Casa del Mundo. This place is a masterpiece of thoughtful design and seamless operation. The complexity of running a hotel in the middle of a cliffside is unimaginable, yet the incredible staff makes it seem effortless. With 26 suites fully booked and 70 to 100 daily visitors, you would expect it to feel crowded, but with only one restaurant and around ten tables, everything is perfectly orchestrated. The space is beautifully decorated, and the views are absolutely surreal.

Hotel Casa del Mundo

This lake will forever be one of our most cherished memories. We hope to return one day, and honestly, we wouldn’t mind staying forever.

Below, you’ll find a collection of videos capturing our time at Lake Atitlán. We only wish we could have captured more, so you could fully experience the magic of this place through our lens.
